CARE AND CLEANING

We thank you for investing in our cabinetry for your home.  It is an investment that will enhance the value of your home for years to come.

Cornerstone Cabinets uses the highest quality coatings and finishes on our cabinets and counter tops.  This guide is intended to provide recommended practices that will help keep your cabinetry looking great for years.

For Stained Or Clear Wood Finishes:

We use a conversion varnish, these surfaces should be treated like fine furniture.

They should be dusted or vacuumed periodically depending on the environment.

It is not recommended to use waxes or silicone products.

The waxes will build up and in time will affect the look of the coating.

Silicone will seep into the coating and make it impossible to obtain adhesion if ever recoat or touch-up is required.

We recommend washing your cabinets with a clean, water dampened cloth as needed.

Once or twice a year, we recommend applying a small amount of furniture polish.

Wipe up spills, splatters and water spots as they occur.  Do not let any liquid sit on the cabinetry as it will penetrate through the coatings and be absorbed by the wood.  Keep the cabinets dry.

Clean with soft clean cloth, warm water and mild detergent or soap.  Use soap only if needed.  Dry immediately after cleaning.

Do not use products with bleach, ammonia or abrasives.

Never use scouring pads, steel wool or powdered cleaners.

Do not allow oven cleaners to come in contact with any wood finish.

Avoid draping damp cloths or dishtowels over cabinet doors.

For Painted Finishes:

We may use a conversion varnish, or a pigmented lacquer.

Regular cleaning with a clean cloth dampened with warm water will be sufficient for most cleaning.

Polishes are not recommended for painted cabinets but the rest of the above guideline applies for these painted surfaces.

The main thing is to keep water or liquids from sitting.  Keep the cabinets dry.

Glass Doors

It is fine to use commercial grade glass cleaners to clean glass doors.  Do not spray the cleaner directly on the glass and cabinet door parts.  The product may seep behind the wood mullions and discolor the wood and get under the coatings.  Spray onto a cloth and wipe the glass.

General Recommendations

Wood will react to its environment and immediate surroundings.

Avoid mounting appliances like coffee makers or toaster ovens on to the cabinets.  Steam from dishwashers, microwaves or ovens must be directed away from wood cabinets.

UV from direct sunlight will affect the appearance of natural wood.  The coatings do contain UV inhibitors but the color and texture of the wood may change compared to other areas with less direct sunlight.

Thank you for choosing Cornerstone Cabinets.
